Trick or Treat!

George(Hannah Montana) Nick (Lion) Maya (Kitty)

Hope you all had a fun Halloween yesterday! It was such a beautiful day and the rain even held out long enough for trick-or-treating! George had to do a 5 mile hike for scouts, and since the kids were out of school, we hiked up to Ensign Peak. We started at Memory Grove and the colors were gorgeous! The leaves and Victorian houses in the Avenues of Salt Lake were picture perfect. I hadn't been up to the park since my bridal pictures (1998) and it brought back a lot of fun memories. We didn't quite make it all the way up to the peak, (we figured it would have been 8 miles from where we started on temple square) but that would have been an awesome view of the valley and the temple. The kids (I'll blame it on them) were exhausted! We came back down and let them play with all the dogs in the park. Nick smiled and giggled the whole time watching them! We had lunch at Nauvoo cafe...which is always so tasty because we get the hand-carved turkey sandwiches with mandarin orange & cranberry dressing, along with their homemade pumpkin soup to share. YUM! When we got home, we got the kids into their costumes and make-up, went trick-or-treating and to Grandma Dorothy's for her traditional donuts, chili, and apple cider. Then we took the kids down to Stevenson's (owners of J&J nursery) pumpkin display....they always have at least 75-100 pumpkins with all sorts of characters carved into them. The neighbors all get together and carve them every year!
We saw Elmo, The book Twilight (with the hands and apple), Mickey and Minnie, TinkerBell, and many others. Then we took the kids over to the Gardner's House on Gordon Ave. (Macabre Mansion) who decked out their house with a Hearse in the driveway and a free walk-through of their haunted yard. George loves going there every year because they always give out full size candy bars. Maya got about 5 feet down the driveway and decided she wanted to go back to the car! She heard the creepy sounds (recording) of dogs growling and monsters snorting...she was outta there! Ha-Ha! Now it's the first day of November! I can't believe it...where does the time go!? Before we know it...Thanksgiving, SNOW, and Christmas will be here soon!
