Nothing beats the old-fashioned flavor of caramel apples when the caramel is made from scratch! Or you can splurge and buy one from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory...they are SO yummythe best and they have one here in American Fork now....oh no...this is not good. If you are trying to be good though, you can buy my new favorite apple (Honey Crisp) A friend of mine told me about them. Her family used to live in Iowa and they would by them by the box out there because they are really popular there...now every fall I have to buy some...they are pricey but worth every bite...and sometimes you can find good deals at associated food stores. They have become my favorite "sweet" treat.

6 Medium Apples
6 Wooden skewers
1 Cup sugar
1/2 Cup light corn syrup
1 Can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
1/8 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Vanilla
Candy sprinkles, chopped candy, or chopped peanuts, if desired...my favorite is chopped pecans and Heath bits.

1.Wash apples and dry thoroughly. Insert a wooden skewer in stem end of each apple. Spray plate with cooking spray.
2.In 2-quart saucepan, mix sugar, corn syrup, milk and salt. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, to 230°F on candy thermometer or until a few drops of syrup dropped into cup of cold water forms a soft ball that flattens when removed from water. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Cool slightly.
3.Quickly dip apples into caramel, swirling until completely covered. Dip bottoms in candy sprinkles. Place apples on plate until caramel is set.
