Maya looks "Spec"tacular in her new spectacles!

We got a letter from the school nurse stating that Maya had not passed her vision screening test at school and needed to be taken to the opthomologist for more testing. After all the drama of having to dilate her eyes at home(it takes 3 hours for brown eyes to dilate) we took her in and she has 2 stigmatisms in her left eye and one in her right. She is been compensating by using her right eye more than her left so the doctor prescribed glasses to force her to start using her left eye. Luckily we caught it just in time and wearing glasses will help correct the problem, but she must wear her glasses all the time, not only for reading. She was very excited about getting glasses at first, but after wearing them for awhile she wanted to keep taking them off, and she broke them the first day by leaving them on her bed and then sitting on them. Luckily we had bought two pairs for this very reason. We took the other pair back to Walmart and it was an easy fix, they put the piece back on and tightened them for her. When she went started back to school she was very excited to show all her friends. She said there was only one little boy named Connor that teased her by pointing to her glasses and covering his eyes. I told her if he keeps teasing her, she can tell him how much she likes his red hair and freckles. Oh boy, things in school haven't changed much since I left! I reassured her that she looked very cute and very smart in them and quoted Gilbert from Anne of Green Gables: "Being smart is more important than being pretty." Then I said, "And being nice to others is even more important than being smart or pretty!" Then she said "OKAY MOM, GET-IT, GOT-IT, GOOD!" I about fell over laughing! They repeat this phrase back to the teacher when she tells them something.
